Decker Terrier Registry

~ Preservation of this wonderful dog must begin with a solid foundation of pedigrees and excellent examples of the breed.  Many years and generation’s have passed since the Decker Terrier has came into existence. The Decker Terrier originated in America around 1970 as a unique blend of Rat Terrier, Basenji, Cur and Fox Terrier. Throughout the history of the Decker Terrier there have been many conservators.  We are greatly indebted to those individuals whom dedicated their passion, time and efforts to see these larger Terrier’s continue.~

~ However we are now at a critical time in this amazing dogs history where they will become a stand alone breed  commonly known as the Decker Terrier.
Our registry will record and preserve the pedigree of the Decker Terrier while maintaining the integrity of the breed.  We will continue to utilize our breed standard while striving for versatility, loyalty and intelligence along with health and temperament.  Continued combined efforts will ensure that these dogs flourish and prosper for many generations to come.~

~ A breed must be carefully developed over at least seven generations to fix the desired characteristics.  When breeding purebred dogs, the offspring must be identifiable as a member of the breed when compared to the standard and to the other adults.  In other words, each litter of puppies should resemble its parents, grandparents and great grandparents and so on.~

~As the preeminent registry for Decker Terriers we staunchly discourage any type of hybridization or out-crossing to other breeds of dogs.  As the charter registry we will strictly adhere to our breed standard. ~

~The Decker Terrier is an agile, active medium bodied hunting Terrier.  They are tenacious and fearless in the field.  When Decker Terriers are not hunting, they are friendly, loyal companions and family pets.  Decker Terriers are confident and regal in appearance making them a striking dog even to the untrained eye. A truly multipurpose dog the Decker is of superior intelligence and capable of amazing problem solving abilities.~

~Whether you are looking for a family companion or agility, hunting partner or show dog the Decker Terrier excel at all aspects with a pure versatility rarely seen in one dog. A highly trainable dog with exceptional loyalty.  You will not be disappointed.~
